About
Picture It Horse
This blog is a place for all riders to pass their personal knowledge on to others . . . Regardless of whether you consider yourself a professional or if you just ride for fun, I think one rider can help another with the right words, concepts or pictures.
So many people consider themselves “Visual Learners” & this blog is a place to pass on visual images that occur to riders in the course of their practice. I have yet to observe a lesson at any level that does not touch upon some visual metaphor - So here is the place to record and amass them for everyone’s benefit!
For me it’s all about the horse and making their life easier so they may perform the tasks we ask of them. It’s great to have success in the show ring, wonderful to enjoy riding to the hounds or penning cattle - what’s greater still is knowing your horse partner is as comfortable as possible and enjoying the ride too.
Do have fun illustrating these - you DON’T have to be an artist - just give it some thought. Write out your tip, then Doodle a stick figure, or cut out a photo and sharpie on it, or paint - draw - any simple way to get your thoughts into pictures . . .Dont forget-we will try to provide an illustration if you cant get it quite right yourself.
So Picture It yourself - and send it in - Thanks!

I am immersed in the art of riding for its own sake.
I practice dressage and cross country, jumping and trail riding. The occasional clinic is thrilling for me.
I am also an artist, a painter. I graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design. I lived in NYC for several years and had many art exhibits. I continue to find many similarities between art making and riding - (those that do one or the other think that is crazy!)
My family and I moved to Vermont 15 years ago. Happily, that led to my being able to ride again, the art and horse worlds have been merging off and on forever. This blog is an extension of that merger.
